Douglas E. Richards.

TOPIC-
THE CURE

Douglas E. Richards has frequently been compared to the late Michael Crichton for his ability to weave accurate, well-researched science into riveting thrillers, including his New York Times bestselling novel, WIRED. Richards earned a BS in microbiology from the Ohio State University, an MS in molecular biology (AKA "genetic engineering") from the University of Wisconsin (where he created mutant viruses now named after him), and an MBA from the University of Chicago. His research on positive strand RNA viruses has appeared in the prestigious academic publication, The Journal of Virology. Richards was the former Director of Biotechnology Licensing for Bristol-Myers Squibb before taking an executive position (Vice President of Business Development) at Signal Pharmaceuticals, a company focused on cures for Central Nervous System and Inflammatory disorders. He later spent four years as a Vice President with Acadia Pharmaceuticals, a company developing drugs for Parkinson's Disease and Schizophrenia, among others. Richard has written numerous feature articles on science for the award-winning magazine, National Geographic KIDS, with several having appeared in as many as sixteen countries in a dozen languages.
