TS Wiley

T.S. Wiley

TOPIC-Book: Lights Out: Sleep, Sugar and Survival

T.S. Wiley is the author of “Sex, Lies & Menopause,” Harper Collins, 2003, the hypothesis of which explains why postponing marriage and motherhood, women have accelerated the aging process and put themselves in the bull's eye for breast cancer. The book also examines the introduction of the birth control pill in the early 1960’s and the impact of not breast-feeding our young. In her previous book, “Lights Out: Sleep, Sugar and Survival, ” Pocket Books, Simon and Schuster, 2000, Wiley succinctly and logically argues that electricity and the light bulb put us out of sync with nature as the ultimate "endocrine disruptors". People spent summers, before electric lights, sleeping less and eating heavily in preparation for winter because the light triggered the hunger for carbohydrates. Now, light is available 24 hours a day. Heating and air-conditioning climate control our hormonal responses to consume carbohydrates now available year round. This is the scenario for obesity, Type II diabetes, and depression. In Wiley’s opinion, sleep is the best medicine. T.S. Wiley has also published peer-reviewed scientific papers in molecular oncology and endocrinology, as well as lecturing globally and teaching physicians Environmental Endocrinology in Planetarium settings around the world. Her newest work in process is "Manthropology", exploring how medicine and modern life are killing men. MILITARY 'CHAPLAIN' FOR ATHEISTS: If Lawmakers Agree, What’s next?

Gary Murphy of AmaWaterways

TOPIC-
Members of Congress are set to square off over a push to create military chaplains for people who do not believe in God. They will be facing off over a recent push to create military chaplains for atheists. A chaplain is a pastor chosen to conduct religious exercises for a branch of the military, and represents a particular faith group for an institution. Why then, are some lawmakers pushing for the military to replace religious chaplains with non-religious chaplains for non-faith groups? In recent weeks, the effort to create atheist chaplains has been building. Supporters say that nearly a quarter of military members are unaffiliated with any religious preference, and they too should have someone to reach out to them. Some lawmakers call the idea ‘total nonsense.’ An atheist chaplain is contradictory, an oxymoron. Why not a secular psychologist? Why a chaplain? Chaplains are religious leaders, not counselors. If you take faith out of the equation, then you no longer have a chaplain.

ABOUT CHAPLAIN GORDON KLINGENSCHMITT… “Dr. Chaps” earned his PhD in Theology at Regent University, is an Air Force Academy graduate, motivational speaker and is the former U.S. Navy Chaplain who made national headlines after being vindicated by Congress, when he took a stand for the rights of military chaplains to pray publicly “in Jesus’ name.” By sacrificing his own 16-year career and a million dollar pension, by demanding his own court martial for the “crime” of worshiping in public, he inspired 300,000 petitioners, 85 percent of polled voters, 35 pro-family groups, and 75 Congressmen who mobilized to overturn the national military “non-sectarian prayer” policy, restoring the rights of military chaplains of all faiths to pray publicly, in uniform, according to the dictates of their conscience, even if they pray “in Jesus’ name.”

Vicki Southard

Vicki Southard

At an early age I discovered if you want people to know about something, you have to spread the word. And when I figured out how to get others talking, I realized it wasn’t difficult – in fact it was fun. So, with my future goal of being the best publicist ever, off I went to develop the skills I would need. From the high-tech industries of Silicon Valley to the corporate halls of New York City, I learned the ‘publicity ropes’. In 1993 I created The PR Group with the idea that communication is king, because any business survives based on its ability to communicate. At The PR Group we use good communication combined with the art of publicity to reach the media, and we’ve been successfully booking clients since 1993. We have scheduled guests on every network and every show possible. We’ve booked over 35,000 radio and TV shows – and some shows have aired more than once or have been syndicated in multiple markets, making the number well over 100,000. We do the same with magazine and newspaper placements –getting unheard of amounts of articles, write-ups and mentions. Clearly, we’re not a PR agency that sits around waiting for the media to come to us. We have strong working relationships with major media outlets. We know who to contact to get you a publicity campaign that gets results. Most importantly, you don’t pay for our time; you only pay for the placements we get. In addition to getting my clients well known, I also enjoy the art of parallel parking in small spaces, and hot tea with cream and honey. With a husband, 2 teens, and a few animals, I’ve learned to excel at the fine art of multi-tasking. When I’m not in the office, you can find me testing my very own anti-wrinkle creams. If you’ve got a product, an idea, or a persona that needs massive amounts of attention – then you’ve come to the right place. Date Recorded: 9/5/2012

GET PLUGGED INTO THE S.F. BAY AREA’S GUNDACKER PROJECT

Timothy J. Bednarz

Gundacker Project creator Dave Gundacker grew up in Anchorage Alaska where he learned to play guitar and drums. Dave has since spent years writing, recording and performing original melodic hard rock music. He moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in the 80’s where he performed in a popular Bay Area melodic hard rock/glam rock band. When the hard music environment of the 80’s-90’s changed, Dave stopped performing his original music to audiences. A few years ago Dave decided he wanted to get back to writing, recording and performing his original melodic hard rock after spending some time performing in various cover bands. Dave enlisted Bay Area veteran Drummer Craig Martin, who was in one of those cover bands, to help him put together a recording project and they began recording some demo tracks. When Dave saw local Bay Area veteran Lead Vocalist Timothy J. Bednarz performing with Craig at a jam session showcase he asked Tim to be a part of this new recording project. After hearing the tracks Tim signed on and the three of them went back into the recording studio to continue writing and recording. This was the beginning of what would become the Gundacker Project. As the Gundacker Project's melodic Hard Rock sound was taking shape, Dave, Craig and Tim knew that this should be more than just a recording project. It needed to become a band. They recruited veteran Bay Area Bassist ‘Win The Bassmaiden,’ who Dave had performed with in another local Bay Area band. It was then that the Gundacker Project was born. With additional musicians performing and helping to perfect the songs which would eventually make up the debut album 'Plug Me In’, Gundacker Project eventually called upon triple threat Guitarist/Keyboardist/Vocalist Alanna Bautista to complete the band in 2013. Alanna had been a member of a local Indie Rock band with Craig‘s son Cory Martin who happened to plays bass on a few of the ‘Plug Me In’ tracks before Win joined. The Gundacker Project packs an electrical charge into its melodic Hard Rock encompassing infectious hooks, powerful guitar riffs and full vocal harmonies. Lead Vocalist/Frontman Timothy J. Bednarz lights up the stage with his ring master presence and powerful voice. Dave Gundacker's razor sharp guitar licks and leads blast jolts of high energy which could fill any Rock arena. Drummer, and heartbeat of the band, Craig Martin pounds with precise and yet animalistic abandon while WIN! The Bass Maiden holds on to the driver’s wheel as much as she slides and glides along the Bass frets and the stage. Alanna Bautista has a powerful singing voice and plays both guitar and keyboards -- a triple threat talent who completes the band. Currently the Gundacker Project is writing and recording music for their follow up album while they continue to perform around the San Francisco Bay Area supporting their debut album, ‘Plug Me In,’ which is available everywhere. www.cdbaby.com www.itunes.com www.amazon.com

Ben Barrack

Ben Barrack

TOPIC-
There’s a reason I chose the tagline, “Let’s Talk About Something Important” for my program. Just watch any network or cable news channel for one hour and you’ll see why. They all seem to revel in the inconsequential and the innocuous. Then spend an hour listening to one of my programs. Upon doing so, you’ll want a “Barrack-aid” number. A “Barrack-aid” is someone who wants to “aid” in getting the truth out by circumventing the mainstream media. Due to the power the MSM has, that has to be done by “barracking”. If you want to get a “Barrack-aid” number, all you have to do is ask via email or by calling into the show. Just remember though that the earlier you get your number, the lower it will be, and the lower your number, the higher your Barrack-aid rank. “Barrack” isn’t just my last name. It’s also a verb that means, “to urge and encourage, especially by shouting”. While I am occasionally prone to some righteous admonition with a raised voice and, at times, extended rants in the face of injustices that should anger everyone, actual shouting is kept to a relative minimum (sort of) and humor is always right around the corner.

‘OVER OUR DEBT BODIES’: Parties Dig in for Another Round in Budget Fight

ABOUT MURRAY HOLLAND: Murray T. Holland is the original Renaissance man: Attorney, investment banker, entrepreneur. He graduated in 1975 from Washington and Lee University with a B.S. in Chemistry and Biology. He earned an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia in 1978 and a law degree from Washington and Lee University in 1980. During the 1980s, he practiced corporate and securities law with Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer and Feld in Dallas, Texas. In 1987, he became an investment banker in New York with First Boston and later moved to Kidder, Peabody & Co., where he was a Managing Director. In the early 1990s, he started the private equity firm of Convergent Associates, based in Dallas, Texas, where he lives today. He became Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Convergent Media Systems Corporation, Atlanta, Georgia, from 1992 through January 2006, at which time the company was sold. Mr. Holland also served as principal shareholder and Chairman of the Board of Convergent Group Corporation, Denver, Colorado, until the company was sold, and as principal shareholder and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BTI Americas travel agency before its sale. ABOUT HOLLAND’S BOOK, DEBT TRAP: http://debttrap.org/ Debt Trap is written to provide the reader a complete and professional analysis of the federal debt crisis and the implications of the crisis to the United States and to you. The author has researched every angle of the crisis and provides the reader a clear understanding of the tragedy facing all of us if the government fails to cut the deficit and cut it immediately. Nothing short of a national disaster is facing our country. Overview The history of sovereign debt defaults has a common thread of too much debt accumulation by both the government and businesses where the accumulation becomes an integral part of the national system of business and government. The use of debt by governments is a politically easy way out of increasing taxes that people do not want. It is also a good mechanism to make the economy appear as though it is growing when, in fact, it is false growth. Sovereign debt defaults as well as economic, currency and banking crises are all interrelated. Sovereign debt crises occur when a government cannot or will not pay interest and principal on its debts. Investors stop lending to that government, and the entire economy of that country goes into depression, as the government can no longer stimulate the economy with borrowed money. Economic crises happen when investment and business activity slow down in a country. When businesses slow down expansion or actually downsize, they fire employees who in turn cannot pay their mortgages or eat out at restaurants; if the downturn is large scale, it can cause banks and other businesses to fail. The unavoidable conclusion is that sovereign debt default is almost a common occurrence and size of the government has nothing to do with a default. Real Numbers Today, the United States debt is sitting at $16.0 trillion ($11 trillion to third parties) and we are receiving $2.4 trillion in tax revenue. Our interest expense is around $450 billion. Neither the government nor any citizen gets any benefit from this expense. When interest rates rise to, say, 7% for a ten-year Treasury, our interest expense would be around $750 billion or almost 34% of the current federal tax revenue. Once a country issues enough debt to make the market scared, interest on its debt soars very quickly. We do not have to look hard to see a clear picture of exactly what is going on with our government finances. Around 60% of federal outlays go to “social spending,” and primarily healthcare, social security, food stamps and unemployment. The inescapable conclusion of the above numbers is that almost two thirds of the federal government is nothing more than a money collection and distribution machine. The federal government itself is not providing any service, other than collecting and distributing cash as it sees fit. With the exception of Social Security and Medicare, where the recipients are the ones who paid for it, all the other payments are a transfer of wealth from some people to other people. The numbers being generated by the White House and Congressional Budget Office do not tell the story of what is really going on inside the government budget.

“Hair Today…NOT Gone Tomorrow”: Hair Club opens its 100th Center

Hair Club founder Sy Sperling

TOPIC-“Hair Today…NOT Gone Tomorrow”: Hair Club opens its 100th Center

Known for his iconic commercials in which he appears both “before,” bald, and “after,” with his own hair restoration solution, and proudly stated, “Not only am I the Hair Club President, but I’m also a client,” Mr. Sperling will be available to discuss his own story as well as some memorable moments through hair history. Originally founded as Hair Club for Men in 1976, Hair Club has helped more than 500,000 men and women to get their hair back and enjoy active, fulfilling lives. Recognizing that different types of hair loss are best served by different treatments, the company built on early success to become a leader in all other proven hair restoration solutions, including hair transplant surgery, hair loss prevention, and the unique requirements of female hair restoration. The new center, which opened up in Manhattan earlier this month, is a state of the art facility that includes 25 styling rooms and has a team of more than 50 trained stylists and consultants. As we get ready to welcome a new year, Mr. Sperling will be available to take listeners through some of the most memorable moments in hair history in the past century: 1905: Evans Vacuum Cap Company markets a suction device that claims to circulate blood flow to the roots of your scalp in order to induce hair growth. 1943: A Japanese dermatologist by the name of Tamura began exploring the use of micrografting by moving a couple of hairs at a time to another area of the scalp. 1952: Dr. Norman Orentreich performs the first male hair transplant surgery in New York City. 1956: As Elvis tops the Billboard charts with his musical breakout, his iconic hair style also takes top billing, popularizing his signature jet black, greased-up ‘do’ and dramatic sideburns. 1976: Sy Sperling renames Hair Weave Creations “Hair Club For Men” 1977: Michael Jackson makes the full “afro” popular while John Travolta dons a perfectly coiffed head of thick black hair in the release of Saturday Night Fever. 1978: Charlie’s Angels star Farrah Fawcett creates her own brand of hair products inspired by her feathered blonde mane. 1984: Hair transplants are enhanced by a new grafting technique called “mini-grafting”. 1994: The “Rachel” haircut becomes popularized by Jennifer Aniston on Friends. 2002: Hair Club starts treating female clients. 2006: Jessica Simpson popularizes hair extensions and releases her line of HairDo extensions, created in partnership with celebrity stylist Ken Paves. 2007: Having been first introduced in 1988 in a liquid form, Rogaine experiences a breakout year following the 2006 development of their foaming mousse-like formula. 2007: Low Level Laser Light Therapy is cleared by the FDA for treatment for hair loss in men. 2010: Justin Bieber’s hair, and his signature flip, drive female tweens wild. Tom Brady follows suit.

Karen Godfrey

Karen Godfrey

After spending her childhood years in Anchorage, Alaska, Karen Godfrey first came to the Midwest to attend the University of Kansas. She graduated in 1980 as valedictorian for the School of Education with a double major in language arts and French. She started her career in Kansas by taking a position at Logan Junior High School in the Seaman District in Topeka and has remained a loyal Midwesterner ever since. She taught a combination of seventh and ninth grade English and French classes at Logan until she moved to the Freshmen Center at Seaman High School where she taught language arts. She has also had a variety of supplemental positions from cheerleader sponsor to National Junior Honor Society sponsor to her most recent roles as volleyball and track coach. Karen has continuously added to her teaching skills and knowledge. She completed a master's degree in language arts education at K. U. in 1988. In 2002, she earned National Board Certification in Early Adolescence/English Language Arts and just successfully completed the renewal process to extend her master teacher’s certificate until 2022. Karen extends her service to the profession beyond her district. She has presented workshops and served on NCA teams in other districts. She also serves as a National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education examiner. She has frequently been a part of Kansas State Board of Education advisory groups and task forces, from the Quality Performance Advisory Council to the Professional Standards Advisory Board. Her most recent role was on the Kansas Education Commission. Her true passion, though, is Kansas NEA work. When she first started teaching, she thought perhaps she could just be a great teacher in the microcosm she created in her classroom. However, she soon became involved in association work, first helping re-establish her local association at Seaman. She quickly realized the need for educational leaders in the forefront working to make Kansas an even better place to teach and learn. Karen then led her local in various roles as chief negotiator, president and UniServ representative. Her first state level work was as an Instructional Advocacy Commissioner. Since then, she has served in several capacities including becoming KNEA Secretary-Treasurer in 2006 and Vice President in 2009. She relishes being an advocate for great public schools for every child. Karen is fortunate that her husband, who is also an educator and long-time member, understands and appreciates the dedication she gives to KNEA. They live outside of Topeka in the country and find time to enjoy their mutual pastimes of outdoor sports, home improvement and antiquing. They also manage occasionally to slip back to Alaska to visit family in Anchorage and Juneau. Podcast of the interview Download:

Brian Sweany

Brian Sweany

TOPIC-
Author of Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer, the new roman à clef from The Writer’s Coffee Shop Publishing House (yep, the very one responsible for unleashing E.L. James’ 50 Shades upon the world), Brian Sweany wasn't always so keen on the written word. "Honestly, I didn’t even like to write until I was in college and noticed poems could get me laid,” he recalls. With Exotic Music being heralded as a “remarkable reinvention of the coming of age novel” by the likes of Boston University’s Department of Journalism chairman and Sweany's New York Times bestselling contemporaries, this Hoosier has no doubt come a noticeable distance from his sordid college days. But happy marriage, three children, and illustrious career in book publishing all the same, Sweany’s skirt-chasing early twenties – and hell-bent-on-destruction teenage years in small town Indiana – are not to be discounted entirely. After all, his debut's often hapless, completely debauched, and entirely charming protagonist, Hank Fitzgerald, has a great deal owing to them. And citing his influences as ranging from Chuck Palahniuk to the Olsen Twins to Kurts Vonnegut and Cobain, Sweany isn’t exactly shying away from comparisons. Fearless, funny and acutely aware, Brian Sweany has immediate availability for interview opportunities around the April 25, 2013 release of Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer to talk about: His riff on the classic Midwest ‘everyman’ tale with Exotic Music – from Judd Apatow’s Illinois (Freaks & Geeks) to the Michigan of John Hughes’ Breakfast Club, why it’s high time Indiana got its moment in the sun Why and how fathers and male role models matter to young men: “to paraphrase Palahniuk: ‘we’re a generation of men raised by women,’ and it’s fucking us up” The current ‘Oprah culture of victimhood’ as damaging to the psyches of today’s young men and women…and, in his words, “for losers” Confusing sex for love, heartache for passion, desperation for honesty and abuse for affection: the universal commonality of the teenage experience Gen X 4EVER: why he’s obsessed with women’s calves, hair metal, and getting his hair washed Please let me know if you are interested in receiving a complimentary advance review copy of Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer, or would like to set up a time to speak with Brian Sweany. We'd be more than happy to accommodate any questions or requests - and, as always, sincerely thank you for your consideration in advance. Thanks, Mr. Jaguar!! Looking forward to your thoughts. Best regards, Sarah Miniaci / SMITH Publicity, Inc. T: 856.489.8654 x 329 / E: sarah.miniaci@smithpublicity.com Praise for Sweany's Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer: “In the vein of David Sedaris or Chuck Palahniuk, Brian Sweany has written a tight satirical story that has you bent over with laughter one moment then wiping away the tears the next minute. –Frank Bill, author of Crimes in Southern Indiana and Donnybrook “Brian Sweany has re-invented the coming of age novel with Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer, a bawdy, unfiltered snapshot of adolescence. Hank Fitzpatrick, the hormonally challenged narrator of the story, has a remarkable capacity to be both nihilistic and tender—think Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas meets Leave It to Beaver—minus the literary pretense and relentless self-awareness of so many other protagonists in the canon.” –William McKeen, author of Outlaw Journalist: The Life and Times of Hunter S. Thompson, professor and chairman of the Department of Journalism at Boston University “For anyone who ever wonders about that guy in school who has more fun, more girls, more drinks, more sex, drugs, and rock and roll, more luck (and bad luck) of the Irish, Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer tells all. But behind every party is the hidden truth: that the world, if given time, will break your heart.” –Keith Donohue, author of The Stolen Child, a New York Times bestseller and Library Journal Best Book of the Year “Exposing the belly of the male beast is a brave thing to do. Brian Sweany writes like an American Martin Amis, and that’s a great thing.” –Alexandra Fuller, author of Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight, a New York Times Notable Book for 2002, the 2002 Booksense best non-fiction book, a finalist for the Guardian’s First Book Award and the winner of the 2002 Winifred Holtby Memorial Prize “Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer is funny and tragic, occasionally even a warm, homespun homage-to-me-familia, but it is the dark and subversive stretches that burned deeply into my psyche and kept me turning the page.” –Sonny Brewer, author of The Poet of Tolstoy Park and editor of Don’t Quit Your Day Job: Acclaimed Authors and the Day Jobs They Quit “Prepare yourself for a nostalgic, strikingly honest trip back to your yearning youth.Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer is more than a romp, and it will do more than jog your memory: it will run your memory over with a juggernaut of hormones, teen confusion and dawning awareness.” –David L. Robbins, author of War of the Rats, founder of the James River Writers and co-founder of The Podium Foundation
About Brian Sweany: Brian Sweany is the Director of Acquisitions for Recorded Books, one of the world's largest audiobook publishers. Prior to that he edited cookbooks and computer manuals, and claims to have saved a major pharmaceutical company from being crippled by the Y2K bug. Brian holds a B.S. in English from Eastern Michigan University, from which he graduated magna cum laude in 1995. He's a retired semi-professional student, with stopovers at Wabash College (the all-male school that reputedly fired Ezra Pound from its faculty for having sex with a prostitute), Marian University (the former all-female school founded by Franciscan nuns that, if you don't count Brian's expulsion, has fired no one of consequence, and is relatively prostitute-free), and Indiana University via a high school honors course he has no recollection of ever attending. Brian has spent most of his life in the Midwest and now lives near Indianapolis with his wife, three children, and a neurotic Husky/Border mix named Hank. He’s currently working on his next project, Making Out with Blowfish, which is the sequel to Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer and the second book in a planned trilogy. Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer is currently available for pre-order via The Writer’s Coffee Shop Publishing House, and will be widely available via all major online retailers and select brick-and-mortar booksellers as of April 25, 2013. EJ Durty

EJ Dury Handicapped by an alcoholic stepfather, Sir E.J. Drury II set off on a crusade, after high school, in search of the very soul he had lost to this ogre. Upon entering the Navy after a brief stint at the US Naval Academy, he struggled for two long years, both in and out of sleep, with the true enemy of mankind—the Beast. As a sailor then, in the US Navy circa 1967, he continued his search for she who must be obeyed if he was to overcome the beastly side of his nature and reunite himself with soul. "Whatever you do," was he forewarned by a fellow shipmate, early on, "don't let them rob you of the most precious gift you have, your humanity, for the wraiths will claw away at it until all that remains is the shadow of what was once you." And so must he, at all costs, resist the temptation of his father’s before him, to live out the visions of others rather than the one with which he had been entrusted at birth, a quest that eventually pits him against the Navy as he comes to a fuller understanding of the true meaning of military service. Returning to St. Louis after his eventual discharge, he sought out and joined a loosely knit community of antiwar activists, vegetarians, and free-spirited thinkers who published the city's only underground paper, The St. Louis Free Press. After not quite a year of leafleting the induction center downtown and of helping disaffected GIs from a nearby army base at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, he joined another community of radical Catholics forming a Catholic Worker House on the near south side of the city. There he stayed until he left for Milwaukee, Wisconsin, later that year, to work at an alcoholic treatment center on the near south side. After suffering through one of the coldest winters he had ever experienced, he moved back to St. Louis to work on a psychiatric floor at Lutheran Hospital. Upon leaving there in protest, with other health care professionals, over the performance of a lobotomy on a 15-year-old patient, he wound up working on an orthopedic floor, and later, a psychiatric floor at Jewish Hospital, for the next seven or so years. At the same time, he purchased a farm about a hundred miles south of St. Louis, where he had begun to experiment with growing organic vegetables that he marketed back in St. Louis. There he built a cabin and began to acquire the tools and equipment he would need to farm 10 to 15 acres of organic fruits and vegetables. Upon leaving Jewish Hospital around 1980, he went to work for a friend and general contractor who was in need of a carpenter. Around this same time, too, he married and began to raise a family. As his oldest son approached the age of two, he started building a new house on the farm, only to have his well-laid plans dashed by an unfortunate but permanent injury to his back, that left him unable to perform any kind of manual labor on a daily basis, ever again. Thrown into a quandary, he eventually went to work for the City of St. Louis as a building inspector, where he worked for two years to the day, before taking a similar position with the City of Richmond Heights, under whose employment he has remained, to this day. After a series of dreams he had in his second year with the City of St. Louis, he started writing, two hours a day until he had completed the book, originally entitled Close Encounters of a Very Special Kind— a recounting of his first year in the Navy, his encounters with soul and their eventual but brief reunion. The book was so poorly produced, it went nowhere. Crushed but not defeated, he continued to work on the book, off and on, until it reached its present form, a work of psychological and social import entitled A Different Kind Of Sentinel, pre-published in 2009 and finally released in 2010, and again in 2013, after its third and final revision. For his part, Sir E.J. is a self-taught, self-made man who has struggled mightily, to live up to his soul's expectations of him, acquiring along the way, whatever it took to get them through the next stage in the development of that one person they are destined to become. Rivendell Books: January 2013 Butch Drury, Publisher Having survived the war in Vietnam, without physical injury to himself, Sir E. J. Drury II “had nonetheless incurred the deeper wounds of a house divided against itself.” As a child, had not he experienced his real father’s schizophrenia and, later, his stepfather’s alcoholism as war related, he may very well have written Review of Book a different kind of story than A Different Kind of Sentinel. For Sir E. J. gives to the imagination what Carl Jung gave to the world—via Active Imagination and the Transcendent Function—a reality “that is just as accessible to one’s faculties as the material world.” From the first page of the book to the last, does the author slip so seamlessly from one world to the next, as if there were truly no distinction between the two. While standing, for example, in front of a mirror, one day, he sees an image of his soul, a woman “standing opposite” him in the mirror. Alarmed at first, he steps “back from the mirror only to find himself being inexorably drawn back into her world through the smile on her face.” In the end, is he “left standing in front of the mirror, smiling at an image of himself dressed as a white knight.” And therein lies the whole story in a nutshell. For this remarkable story is as much about the author as it is about the soul and their eventual reunion. While he fears the white knight, she loves the White Knight “above all else.” Where he longs to be free of his indenture to the beast, she longs to be free of her imprisonment in nature. “I am the way,” she boldly proclaims when he finally admits he is lost. And though the two suffer the same agonizing pain of separation from each other and their respective worlds, both seek the one person they are meant to become. As a sailor then, does he reluctantly set off in search of she who must be obeyed if he is to overcome the beast that burdens him and the rest of humanity with self-destruction or destruction of the self. “Whatever you do,” is he forewarned by a fellow shipmate, “don’t let them rob you of the most precious gift you have, your humanity, for the wraiths will claw away at it until all that remains is the shadow of what was once you.” So must he, at all costs, resist the temptation of his father’s before him, “to live out the visions of others rather than the one with which he had been entrusted at birth,” a vision that eventually pits him against the Navy as he comes to a fuller understanding of the true meaning of military service. Filled with many insights into the workings of the soul and the trinity, human sexuality and creativity, war and the beastly side of human nature, the book is intended for those intrepid souls who will venture to open its pages in search of what might free them from the clutches of the beast that threatens to destroy us all before we destroy our selves—the beast’s only mode of operation. Short Summary Most Recent: The first major work to document the development of a conscientious objector using Jungian Psychology (Active Imagination and the Transcendent Function) Short Summary: Using a little known technique of Jungian Psychology termed Active Imagination and the Transcendent Function, does the author paint a picture of himself as a young man who has lost his way into the Navy, circa 1967. As his body burns with desire for union with soul, with each stroke of the pen does the author delve deeper into the unconscious in his search for what might free him from his indenture to the beast--a quest that eventually pits him against the Navy as he comes to a fuller understanding of the true meaning of military service. My only credentials are that I have spent a good part of my life writing this book while studying the writings of such notable persons as the contemplative Thomas Merton, the psychoanalyst Carl Jung and the Zen Master D.T. Suzuki. The only other book that comes close in style to what I have written is C.G. Jung’s The Red Book, which I have only recently acquired due to its unavailability. The main point I would like to get across is that we have lost touch with our souls and lost our way. As a result we are destroying ourselves and the planet, instead of destroying our selves, an ego way of existence that has outlived its usefulness. We must turn inward to find the way, to get back in touch with our souls, to find healing. When a soldier kills himself, as many are doing these days, he has misunderstood the symbolism. It is the self he must kill, not his whole being. To see that takes symbolic understanding which can only be gained by turning inward. We take killing too literally. We kill other people instead of killing what we project on to them to make them an enemy in the first place. Again we misunderstand the symbolism. It is against human nature to kill another but not to kill the enemy within. Union with soul doesn’t always mean union with a flesh and blood woman, but union with what image of our soul we have projected onto her. Again we misunderstand the symbolism, if you get my drift… Butch Podcast of the interview Download:

SUPREME COURT BACKS HOBBY LOBBY IN CONTRACEPTIVE MANDATE CHALLENGE

SUPREME COURT BACKS HOBBY LOBBY IN CONTRACEPTIVE MANDATE CHALLENGE
TOPIC-Hobby Lobby, Inc. has tackled the ObamaCare contraception mandate head-on. The Oklahoma-based craft store giant, with over 600 branches nationwide, filed suit against the Health and Human Services (HHS) department, indicating that the firm’s First Amendment right of religious freedom was violated by the contraception mandate. This decision has will have significant implications for ObamaCare and the future of Corporate America. The Supreme Court ruled Monday that certain "closely held" for-profit businesses can cite religious objections in order to opt out of a requirement in ObamaCare to provide free contraceptive coverage for their employees. The 5-4 decision, in favor of arts and crafts chain Hobby Lobby and one other company, marks the first time the court has ruled that for-profit businesses can cite religious views under federal law. It also is a blow to a provision of the Affordable Care Act. The court stressed that its ruling applies only to corporations that are under the control of just a few people in which there is no essential difference between the business and its owners. The decision in this case will not repeal ObamaCare, but it will have a tremendous impact on the health care law, the understanding of the First Amendment, and the structure of the legal system when applied to Corporate America. Crucial decisions have been made by the Supreme Court. Andrew Mangione and Daniel Weber, of AMAC, have been closely following this case in Washington.
