About Zach
-2003 Pro Wrestling Illustrated Rookie of the Year.
-2003 Pro Wrestling Illustrated Most Inspirational Wrestler of the Year.
Zach Gowen lost his left leg to cancer at age 8. Being an athlete his whole life, he was sent into a depression after the amputation because he could not perform at an athletic level that was satisfactory to him. But that all changed when he re-discovered professional wrestling. While he was stand-out amateur wrestler in high school, Zach always dreamed of the big leagues of pro wrestling. In 2001, at just 17 years old, Zach stepped foot in the squared circle for the first time. He was trained by Ring of Honor star Truth Martini who was the only one who encouraged Zach to follow his dreams. Other wrestlers and naysayers tried to fill Zach's head with doubt. "There's never been a one-legged pro wrestler" "it's impossible", they would say to him but Gowen persevered on. And on March 16, 2002 Zach made his professional wrestling debut and made his dreams a reality. Gowen became an independent wrestling sensation and sooned grabbed the attention of Total Nonstop Action (TNA) and the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). In February 2003, he signed a 3 year contract with WWE and instantly became an inspiration to millions worldwide. Zach showed that the impossible can come true if you just believe in yourself and follow your dreams. Gowen went from a government assisted, single family home to the grandest stage of them all because he followed his dreams and believed in himself.
Zach's been living the American Dream for 9 years now. He's wrestled with the sports biggest stars, traveled all over the world because of pro wrestling, and has inspired countless individuals along the way to follow their dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem. When Zach's not wrestling, he travels across the USA to speak publicly at Children's Hospitals and public schools. He likes to talk to kids and motivate them to keep fighting the good fight as well as warn them against the dangers and pitfalls of substance abuse. This subject is very near and dear to Zach's heart as he is a gratefully recovering addict himself. He has received a gift and a second chance at life and feels it's his responsibility to spread that love and positivity to everyone he comes in contact with, in hopes of making the world a brighter place to live.
Zach is so grateful that professional wrestling has allowed him to become a positive role model for children and that his story helps inspire kids to overcome all odds and obstacles. Zach believes if he overcame childhood cancer, having his leg amputated, and drug addiction to become a professional wrestler, public speaker, author, and stuntman then absolutely nothing is impossible. "Dare to Dream" as Zach would say.
