Unprecedented Punishments for Penn State
NCAA President Mark Emmert announced an unprecedented set of punishments and fines for Penn State University in the wake of the Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal.
A fine of $60 Million will be paid to a special endowment fund over the next five years that will in part help in the detection, prevention and treatment of child sex abuse. Penn State has also been banned from post season bowl appearances over the next 4 years.
The University has lost over 40 scholarships and has also had all of the football victories between 1998 and 2011 vacated. The vacating of the wins means that former Head Coach Joe Paterno is no longer the winningest football coach in NCAA history,
