Stan Zabka

TOPIC-
Razz Ma Tazz: My Life in Music, Television and Film

RAZZ MA TAZZ My Life in Music, Television and Film A Memoire By Stan Zabka From a Depression era home with a rich family heritage emerges a man whose music career, though interrupted by service in two wars, is seasoned to serve in the entertainment industry. His successes and failures, ups and downs, take him from obscurity to the limelight. His music and recordings still captivates millions. “In Razz Ma Tazz, Stan Zabka gives us a glimpse into a very specialized corner of the greatest generation’s journey. Surviving the Great Depression and WWII, Stan immersed himself in the fragile fields of broadcasting popular music, and movies ---seemingly all at the same time. Never a star but always a player, Stan shows us a world few have seen and adds the perspective of an ultimate insider.” Nick Clooney Distinguished Journalist in Residence The Newseum, Washington, D.C. Stan Zabka writes from his heart about his roots, a model mother and a distant father, along with eleven brothers and sisters. He and seven of his brothers served in World War II. Finishing college, he began his songwriting career in New York as a Page Boy with NBC. Just as his first song was published, he joined an NBC Psychological Warfare bound for Europe during Korea War and the Cold War with Russia. A civilian once again, Zabka traveled with the Johnny Long Orchestra as vocalist before rejoining NBC as an associate television director. During a quarter century with the network, Zabka created themes for its Peabody and Christopher Award-winning shows, notably Chimes, the original “Tonight Show” and “NBC Sports” themes. He holds an Emmy as a television director, a film producer Oscar nomination, and three coveted music awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). In 2007, the American Forces Network (AFN) honored the noted composer by labeling his first published song, Christmas Eve in My Home Town, “The Soldier’s Christmas Song.” An octogenarian, still going strong as a lecturer, Zabka entertains senior citizens on a regular basis at retirement homes and assisted living venues. Veteran broadcaster Tom Foty hails Razz Ma Tazz as “a warm and engaging biography of real family values and sprinkled with entertaining showbiz tidbits--- from the inner working of the music business and the early days of network television to Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show and later films of Clint Eastwood ---all to the beat of a parade of song titles so important to the life of my friend.”

DR. GOLOMEBK:

Sergio G. Golombek, MD, MPH, FAAP: Biography Sergio G. Golombek, MD, MPH, FAAP is a Professor of Pediatrics and Clinical Public Health at the New York Medical College and an Attending Neonatologist at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, in Valhalla, NY. Dr. Golombek received his medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires School of Medicine in Argentina. After training in pediatrics and neonatology in Argentina, he moved to the U.S., where he completed a pediatric residency at the R. Blank Memorial Hospital for Children at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA, followed by a Fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal medicine at The Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. He is an active member of the Argentine Society of Pediatrics, the Iberoamerican Society of Neonatology and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a member of the Society for Pediatric Research, and the Past-President of the New York Perinatal Society. He received in 2004 his MPH (International Health) from the School of Public Health at New York Medical College. Dr. Golombek has served as principal investigator on several trials, including the NIH-sponsored trial, “Use of low dose inhaled nitric oxide for the prevention and treatment of chronic lung disease in preterm infants,” and a pilot study of thyroid hormone supplementation for transient hypothyroxinemia of prematurity. He has received the Physician Recognition Award from the American Medical Association since 1993, was included in Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Millennium Edition (2000), and is listed in Guide to America’s Top Pediatricians and Who’s Who in American Education. Dr. Golombek has published multiple articles on the treatment of transient hypothyroxinemia of prematurity, RSV prophylaxis, cardiac failure in newborns, and the effects of surfactant treatment on gas exchange and the clinical course in near-term newborns with RDS. Additionally, he has edited and contributed chapters to Augusto Sola’s textbook Special Care of the Fetus and Newborn: Physiopathology and Therapeutics and to the 6th Edition of Neonatology: Pathophysiology and Management of the Newborn, including “Principles of respiratory care and strategies for management.” He has been an invited Professor, lecturing around the U.S. and in most of the countries in Latin America over the past several years. Kimberly Sutherland : Biography Kimberly Sutherland is no stranger to the challenges of caring for a premature baby. Her son, Mason, was born at 28 weeks gestational age at just 2 lbs., 4 oz. and 14 inches long. He spent three weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit, and six weeks in the preemie nursery. Mason was born with chronic lung disease, and for a total of seven weeks, needed oxygen. Through conversations with Mason’s doctors and nurses, Kimberly quickly learned that prematurity disrupts a baby’s development in the womb, often stunting the growth of some of the body’s most critical organs. She learned that because of this, preemies are more susceptible to a variety of medical problems as infants, including jaundice and difficulties with breathing, feeding and maintaining temperature. Kimberly took every precaution to protect her fragile baby, especially after learning about respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) from a nurse in the hospital. After hearing about how dangerous this highly contagious virus can be for preemies, she took a number of proactive safety measures, such as: avoiding taking Mason to crowded places; making sure everyone who entered the house washed their hands frequently; sanitizing items constantly; ensuring she and her husband received flu shots; and limiting Mason’s contact with outside visitors. Luckily, Mason did not contract RSV. While Kimberly and her family still take every precaution possible to ensure Mason stays healthy, Mason is now an energetic and happy six-year-old. Kimberly wishes to spread the word about how parents and parents-to-be can learn about keeping their preemie healthy. Kimberly lives with her husband and Mason in Westchester, NY.

Joe Crummy NEW book

Joe Crummy

TOPIC-
NEW book

This book is about Time, and what it means to you in the long run. It's also about losing someone you love, and wondering why there are mosquitos. Nothing against God, but a growing number of people want to know where they stand in this Universe. Up until now, a lot's been resting on the shoulders of God's son, Jesus who showed up once and tried to straighten everything out. But stubborn doubts remain. If God cares so much, then why are there so many idiots in charge? And why does everybody have to end up as a doddering old geezer? Meanwhile, we've been slowly figuring out the Universe. The mechanics of its operation, the way it works suggest startling things about who you are and why you are here. I'll bet you'd like to know more, but first, a question. "Do you want fries with your God?" My process of discovery actually began with a fast food commercial I saw on TV. I'll explain in a moment, but right now it's all about you. Buy this book!

Aeb

Aeb

With her music reverberating from coast to coast, jazz festivals to gritty pubs to all night fire parties on downtown LA rooftops, Adrienne “Aeb” Byrne’s adventurous spirit has made songs of life experience backed by years of classical and jazz training. Her sound is equal parts Fiona Apple, Joss Stone and Tori Amos filtered through Byrne’s dark and moody Jazz fusion. Growing up in the rowdy University town of State College, Pennsylvania--Aeb’s professional experience started at age 13 playing in her father’s (jazz musician Eli Byrne) many projects, alongside contemporary jazz greats Duane Eubanks, Ronnie Burrage, and Sid Simmons. Trained on the keys and a wicked jazz flute--Aeb played with men forty years her senior and held her ground, where she learned the ins and outs of playing with a band and honed her razor sharp sound and swagger. While the member of many jazz bands and teaching the next generation of musicians as a private tutor--Aeb jumped headfirst into the world of rock and roll with her most popular band, The Nightcrawlers, one of Pennsylvania’s biggest college acts in early 2000’s--combining classic rock with world music. The Nightcrawlers were Penn State University’s most popular band for several years, and the group toured the Northeast, playing over a hundred shows a year. The band released an album that met with both commercial and critical success, described by Pennsylvania Musician Magazine as “brimming with virtuosity...” In 2008, Aeb relocated to Los Angeles, where she currently tours Southern California performing her rock and jazz flavored brand of singer-songwriter tunes. She share’s her lifelong love of music by tutoring the region’s most talented youth in between shows everywhere from famous Viper Room to the world-renowned State Theatre. Whether solo or as part of a band, Aeb thrives in front of a live audience, drawing listeners into her world with an honest, soulful delivery and lyrics that are at once personal and universal.

Mark Becker-Legal Logic

TOPIC-
Legal Logic

Guest Bio: Mark E. Becker is a lawyer, certified mediator, political mediator and author. Mark was one of the first certified mediators in the state of Florida and has successfully help resolve more than 5,000 cases. Mark consulted with politicians on high profile issues, worked in the same Florida courthouse that determined the 2000 presidential election, had his shoes shined with Vice-President Joe Biden, spoke candidly with Senator Elizabeth Dole, accidently stepped on Jesse Jackson’s shoes, and had lunch next to Florida Governor Jeb Bush during 9/11 as his brother, the president, was in Sarasota Florida reading stories to elementary children. In fact, he borrowed the title for his first political thriller, “At Risk of Winning,” from Ron Paul’s wife. Mark is not a member of any political party, and you will never see any reference to party politics in his books, during mediation, or while he commentates. Mark believes that, as with any dispute with two contentious parties, the democrats and republicans could benefit greatly from solution-oriented mediation. About the Books: Mark has taken his approach to mediation and created a character who exemplifies the qualities that he believes people should seek when deciding to cast their vote in elections. Mark’s main Character, Max Masterson is a guy who isn’t a politician, who happens to be running for President of the United States. He isn’t a member of any political party, and he doesn’t make speeches. In fact, Max doesn’t do anything like traditional politicians, and that’s why the Washington establishment is trying to kill him.

Rich Okumoto

Rich Okumoto

TOPIC-
Keys to the Future: Exposed

In the spring of 1970 I saw two shooting stars. Upon the first I wished for success in business. Upon seeing the second I wished to be a writer and an educator. Upon the death of both parents, 14 months apart, I decided that it was time to realize my second wish. In 2006, while recovering from reconstructive neck surgery, I found my uncluttered time un-nerving. Months passed and my tension vanished. Three things happened: I slowed down and began to embrace thinking, I fell into a daily rhythm, and I became comfortable with fewer things in my life. It may have been an anesthetic induced calm, but it felt like I was floating and smiling all the time. In 2007, after a one year recovery period I made the decision to never return to a full-time corporate position. I tried consulting for a while, but found no satisfaction in the work. By chance in 2008 I was asked to develop a strategy course for the Lucas Graduate School of Business at SJSU. I was then asked to teach the class. I found my heart in teaching and mentoring. It was difficult, but natural. Teaching and mentoring provided a platform for me to chat, share ideas, and write papers for classroom use. To improve my skills I applied to and was accepted at Gonzaga University. For two years I attended the university on a full-time basis – receiving my Master’s degree in Communication and Leadership in December 2011. While attending Gonzaga University SJSU granted me two additional MBA classes to teach (both in strategy and one class is the capstone course). I was also asked to help develop a Financial Literacy course for undergraduate students. Although I had an accounting degree and had worked in corporate finance for many years; I went back to school for 1,000 hours of study to complete my Certificate in Personal Financial Planning and received my Registered Financial Consultant (RFC ®) designation. This qualified me to teach the class. This was the first Area-E Personal Financial Education class at SJSU. As a service learning project I combined this class with financial education training sessions in the underserved East side of San Jose. CommUniverCity, a collaborative community organization, facilitated my activities. I am currently developing one of the first MOOCs at SJSU using my Personal Financial Education class as the pilot. It will be launched in the 2014 Spring Semester. For my work at SJSU the students and faculty granted me Master Teacher status in 2011 and 2012. Ironically, I feel that I am not doing enough. As an instructor and a Board member I continue my teaching and mentoring work in both the academic and corporate environments. To Accelerate-Time-to-Knowledge I am building and will soon launch the Dot University© (#DotU). R.Y. Okumoto

Last week, the streets of the Ukraine ran wet with the blood of those who seek to keep their nation free from the Kremlin’s clutches. Japan and the Philippines anxiously await the latest Chinese aggression. The people of Israel feel a sense of dread not equaled since the defeat of Nazi Germany. The Taliban is preparing to retake Afghanistan, and al Qaeda controls more territory than ever in the Middle East. Moscow is violating arms agreements without any serious discussion of penalty from the White House, as Putin develops a military even more powerful than it possessed during the Cold War. China has devoted its vast riches to the construction of an armed force larger in size than any other nations’, with high-tech weapons that in many cases surpass our own. In North Korea, people are subjected to a level of atrocities not seen since the concentration camps of the 1940s, as their government continues to rapidly build nuclear weapons and ICBMS capable of delivering them to American soil. Parts of Latin America are suffering under despotic regimes that repress their own citizens and openly call the United States their enemy. These governments have opened their doors to the military's and intelligence services of Iran, China, and Russia. Several nations that formerly were allied in interest with Washington, such as Egypt and Turkey, are now looking towards America’s enemies for arms deals. As the planet becomes far more dangerous, the U.S. military continues to shrink. While all this occurs, Secretary of State John Kerry proclaims that global warming is his main concern. The time has long passed for highly important and urgently appropriate questions about the Obama Administration’s foreign policy strategy and goals, as well as its vision of America’s international role to be asked. There are two salient issues involved. The first is the incredible deterioration of international relations during Obama’s tenure. The second is the complete failure of the President to share with the American people his worldview. The United States is supposed to be a government of, by, and for the people. Despite that, since his election, Mr. Obama has avoided his responsibility to discuss his international objectives and plans with his constituency. He has commented about foreign affairs far less, in speeches, press conferences, and state of the union addresses than his predecessor. There are serious questions about the priorities and competency of a President who rushes to ouster an Egyptian regime that was friendly to the U.S., and a Libyan regime that was fighting al Qaeda as are we, but does nothing of substance to assist Iranian dissidents who are seeking to reform the vile Tehran government, or to assist Cuban political prisoners, or those seeking to restore democracy in Venezuela, or Ukrainians courageously seeking to avoid a Kremlin takeover. His actions in opening negotiations with the Taliban are against America’s long standing policy of not negotiating with terrorists. As human rights violations ring the globe, where is America, the nation that has always been the leading champion of freedom? Why does the current Administration continue to move closer to nations like Russia and China, chronic opponents of human rights, while distancing free nations and solid friends such as Israel, Japan, the Philippines, and Europe? Doubtless, the Administration and its defenders in the Senate and the media will view these questions as partisan attacks on Mr. Obama. But when did it become partisan to simply ask the President, especially in the wake of an extraordinary deterioration in America’s global position, what his plans are? When did it become partisan to ask why journalists seeking information about international issues were wiretapped? Why did the State Department of Hillary Clinton move to prevent key figures from testifying to Congress about what actually happened in Benghazi? This isn’t about being for or against the President. It’s a clear recognition of the facts on the ground, undeniable facts that under Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John Kerry, America has been dramatically weakened, our allies endangered, our enemies emboldened. It’s about seeking an explanation of why this Administration has alienated nations like the United Kingdom, which has been our steadfast ally for over a century. It’s about an almost total lack of communications from the Oval Office of the President, or the State Department under Hillary Clinton and John Kerry about what direction they are steering this nation in, and why, after the drastic reduction in America’s safety and standing, there has been no discussion of this Administration’s motives and what changes will be made in recognition of the dramatic failures of the past five years.

Musican

Instrumental Flowitry: Created by P Dallas. Audio media for freestylists, rappers and musicians. A series of beats & instrumentals released in volumes. The term "Flowitry" is a portmanteau thought to be created by P Dallas during a freestyle session. The two blended words being flowing and poetry. Later it was found that there were already other people using the term flowitry as well, but all have different spellings. Giving credit where credit is due, the first found flowitry was a female R&B group called "floetry" and although there are others, as far as history goes, they seem to be the first to use the word.

3 Years Hollow

3 Years Hollow doesn't pull any punches. The Quad Cities quintet—Jose Urquiza [vocals], Tony Reeves [guitar], Neil Kuhlman [guitar], Dex Digga [bass], and ChrisCushman [drums]—dispenses honest hard rock that's equally hypnotic and heavy on its first full-length album for Imagen Records. Over the past decade, the group has solidified itself as one of the Midwest's most incendiary and infectious young acts. Their breakout independent single "Remember" charted at #1 on Octane, while "Chemical Ride" is closing in on 400,000 YouTube views. In 2012, they emerged as regional victors during the Ernie Ball-sponsored Rockstar Energy UPROAR Festival "Battle of the Bands". Playing the Tinley Park, IL date of UPROAR, they caught the attention of ImagenRecords who proceeded to offer them a deal soon after. Now, with production by none other than Clint Lowery of Sevendust and Call Me No One, their latest album bristles with irresistible intensity and magnetic melodies. Becoming a local stalwart, 3 Years Hollow shared the stage with everybody from Papa Roach to Buckcherry, and they've siphoned their live energy into a kinetic anthems. About the sound, Jose explains, "We want to play melodic hard rock. That's the music that brought us together. At the same time, we all have drastically different influences from progressive rock to hair metal to pop punk. We all agree on what 3 Years Hollow is though." That cohesion comes across on the likes of "For Life". Coupling a fret-burning solo and chorus from Lowery with Jose's dynamic delivery, it practically explodes on impact. "It's about a person who is struggling and has fallen away from the world alone," says the vocalist. "You can see the damage and the demons the person deals with on a daily basis. However, all of a sudden, there is hope instead of despair. The final message is to pull away from the demons, stand strong against them, and keep them out for the rest of your life. It was such an honor to bring that track to life with Clint." Then, there's "Hungry", which bares its teeth via a bombastic beat and arena-size hook. It taps into their on-stage intensity. "We wrote that in the jam space," recalls Jose. "We want people to get close to the music. We give everything we can so fans forget about everything else." Ultimately, 3 Years Hollow constantly keeps the listeners in mind with that honesty. "Everything I write about is a completely personal experience or something I've witnessed or experienced myself," he concludes. "I talk about things I've seen or experienced. I want to give everybody something real." www.3yearshollow.com www.facebook.com/3yearshollow www.youtube.com/threeyearshollow www.twitter.com/3yearshollow Podcast of the interview Download:
