Ben Barrack

Ben Barrack

TOPIC-
There’s a reason I chose the tagline, “Let’s Talk About Something Important” for my program. Just watch any network or cable news channel for one hour and you’ll see why. They all seem to revel in the inconsequential and the innocuous. Then spend an hour listening to one of my programs. Upon doing so, you’ll want a “Barrack-aid” number. A “Barrack-aid” is someone who wants to “aid” in getting the truth out by circumventing the mainstream media. Due to the power the MSM has, that has to be done by “barracking”. If you want to get a “Barrack-aid” number, all you have to do is ask via email or by calling into the show. Just remember though that the earlier you get your number, the lower it will be, and the lower your number, the higher your Barrack-aid rank. “Barrack” isn’t just my last name. It’s also a verb that means, “to urge and encourage, especially by shouting”. While I am occasionally prone to some righteous admonition with a raised voice and, at times, extended rants in the face of injustices that should anger everyone, actual shouting is kept to a relative minimum (sort of) and humor is always right around the corner.

Sylvie Simmons

Sylvie Simmons

TOPIC-
I’m Your Man is the definitive account of that extraordinary life. Acclaimed music journalist Sylvie Simmons crafts a portrait of Cohen as nuanced as the man himself, drawing on a wealth of research that includes Cohen’s personal archives and more than a hundred exclusive interviews with those closest to Cohen—from his lovers, friends, monks, professors, rabbis and fellow musicians to his muses, including Rebecca De Mornay, Marianne Ihlen, Suzanne Elrod and Suzanne Verdal—and most important, with Cohen himself, whose presence infuses these pages. Starting in Montreal, Cohen’s birthplace, where he first found fame as a poet in the fifties, Simmons follows his trail, via London and the Greek island of Hydra, to New York in the sixties, where he launched his music career. From there she traces the arc of his prodigious achievements to his remarkable retreat in the mid-nineties—when on the cusp of marriage to a beautiful actress and enjoying the success of his best-selling album to date, he entered a monastery on a rocky mountaintop above Los Angeles—and finally to his reemergence for a sold-out world tour almost fifteen years later. Whether navigating Cohen’s journeys through the back streets of Mumbai or the countless hotel rooms where he has stayed along the way, Simmons explores with equal focus every complex, contradictory strand of Cohen’s life—from the halls of academia to the arenas of rock ’n’ roll—and presents a deeply insightful portrait of both the artist and the man whose vision, spirit, depth and talent continue to move people like no one else.

Sylvie Simmons is an award-winning writer and one of the foremost music journalists working today. Born in London, she moved to Los Angeles in the late seventies and started writing about rock music for magazines such as Sounds, Creem, Kerrang! and Q. She is the author of acclaimed fiction and nonfiction books, including the biography Serge Gainsbourg: A Fistful of Gitanes and the short-story collection Too Weird for Ziggy. She has lived at various times in England, the United States, and France, and she currently lives in San Francisco, where she writes for MOJO magazine and plays the ukulele.

PDD/NOS, ADD/ADHD, OCD

Dr. Robert Melillo One of the most respected specialists in childhood neurological disorders in America, Dr. Robert Melillo has been helping children overcome learning disabilities for over 20 years. His areas of expertise include: autism spectrum disorders, PDD/NOS, ADD/ADHD, OCD, dyslexia, Asperger's, Tourette's, bipolar disorder, and other attention, behavioral and learning disorders. As a clinician for 25 years, a university professor, brain researcher and bestselling author, his cutting-edge research and success with over a thousand children in his private program are what led to the creation of Brain Balance Achievement Centers. Brain Balance Centers are cutting edge supplemental learning centers catering only to children with various learning disabilities. Brain Balance Centers use a multi-modal, hemispheric curriculum focused on addressing the primary issue in most learning disabilities and behavioral disorders which is known as a functional disconnection. Dr Melillo and his research partner Dr Gerry Leisman are considered two of the world's leading experts and pioneers in the area of functional disconnection and its relationship to neurobehavioral disorders. Since they introduced this concept, functional disconnection has become one the leading theories in the world related to Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia and more. Their work is leading the way toward understanding the underlying nature of these disorders and their causes. Their lab is focused on developing effective treatments for these and other disorders. In 2004, Dr. Melillo published Neurobehavioral Disorders of Childhood: An Evolutionary Perspective, a working theory textbook on developmental disabilities. However, it was Dr. Melillo's best-selling 2009 book, Disconnected Kids that catapulted him to national prominence. Greeted with overwhelming positive response, the thesis of that book serves as the foundation for the work being done at Brain Balance Centers around the country. Dr. Melillo's leadership in the field, as well as his personal dedication to the creation of a drug-free multi-modal educational program for children with ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, Asperger's, and autism spectrum disorders, have made him one of the most sought-after speakers on the subject today, both in the U.S. and abroad. His optimistic and straight-forward approach to overcoming childhood disorders has given hope to countless families throughout the world. His follow up book Reconnected Kids was released in 2011 and has also met with great success and has also been a best seller. This book was an inspirational book which also helped parents to understand and address behavioral issues in their child using cutting edge brain science. His most recent and third book published by Penguin is a book simply entitled Autism, but it is another groundbreaking publication that takes on some very controversial topics. This book which will be released in January 2013 addresses the causes of autism and whether in fact we are witnessing an epidemic and most importantly what are the environmental factors and genetic issues that increase the risk of a couple having a child with autism. He also has put together a cutting edge "preconception" program that he describes in the book to help to possibly prevent Autism and ADHD in a baby. He has a specialized practice in New York City where he works with children, and adults with ADHD and other neurological conditions. He is also working and conducting research on children with PANS, Pediatric acute neurological syndrome and PANDAS, which are neurological and immunological conditions that are poorly understood. As well as overseeing the Brain Balance Centers, Dr. Melillo is currently heading up a group of international research labs as well acting as a post graduate professor where he has been teaching his theories and techniques to health professionals around the world . He is also serving as a curriculum consultant to Grammy Award winning musical artist Zac Brown, of the Zac Brown Band, who is creating his own special camp for children with disabilities and their families. Dr Melillo has also appeared in dozens of television interviews and appearances including "The Doctors Show" on CBS and he has frequently appeared on Fox News and NBC, as an expert commentator, he has also done several hundred radio interviews, nationally and internationally.

What Can Consumers Expect from their Winter Energy Bills this Year?

Bruce McDowell

TOPIC-
With the official start of autumn just behind us, experts from theAmerican Gas Association (AGA) will be available to discuss what the winter holds for natural gas customers. AGA will unveil its Winter Fuel Outlook and examine market influencers just ahead of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Winter Fuels Outlook, which is the federal government’s forecast for what it will cost to heat an average home with various fuels this winter. In the face of hurricane season, peak winter demand, snow storms and other severe weather events, natural gas can offer a reliable, affordable and clean, domestically abundant energy source for customers across the nation. AGA experts will discuss how natural gas can help meet our nation’s 21st century energy needs this winter and for decades to come. Our nation has seen a fundamental shift in the natural gas marketplace. Advances in American technology have unlocked vast new sources of natural gas resources. As a result, domestic natural gas supplies are at an all-time high, and the future supply of natural gas in total has doubled since 1990. Today, the United States is the leading natural gas producer in the world and with continued technological advances that figure is expected to continue to grow. Our domestic abundance of clean natural gas is delivered via the safest energy delivery system in the nation. Emissions from natural gas systems are low and getting lower, representing a small share of annual U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, with evidence pointing toward a declining trend. This trend is bolstered in part by continued efforts on the part of the natural gas industry to upgrade and modernize the natural gas pipeline network to enhance safety. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, natural gas is the cleanest fossil fuel, with the lowest carbon content and fewer impurities than other fuels. Despite a 70 percent increase in households using natural gas over the past four decades, there has been virtually no growth in carbon dioxide emissions among residential and commercial consumers. Natural gas customers continue to reduce household consumption and carbon emissions dramatically by taking steps such as weatherizing their homes, using energy-efficient appliances and installing programmable thermostats.

Bruce McDowell, Managing Director, Policy Analysis at the American Gas Association, which represents over 200 local energy utility companies that deliver natural gas to more than 65 million homes, businesses and industries throughout the United States

DREAM DYNAMICS AND DECODING: Personal, Practical, Powerful Messages

Janice Baylis, PhD., born in 1928, is a retired Reading Specialist Teacher and Community College Dream-study Instructor. In 1959 her car-pool passenger, Mabel, phoned at 6am asking to change their meeting spot to around the corner. That same morning at 7am Mabel was getting into Janice's car. They heard a loud CRASH! They rounded the corner and passed their regular meeting spot. There was a small airplane landed upside down in the corner of the store parking lot WHERE THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN! Mabel explained that she had dreamed it during that night. Mabel's life-saving, pre-cognitive, warning dream started Janice on her life-long, self-directed and academic study of dreaming. Her student's dreams and the Edgar Cayce dream material focused Janice on the practical side of dreaming. At prodding from her students in 1977 she authored "SLEEP ON IT! The Practical Side of Dreaming". BA in Education, Occidental College 1950. MA in Psychology, Pepperdine University 1979. PhD. in Psychology, Columbia Pacifica University 1981. As a Reading Specialist Teacher Janice worked with the phonics system to teach children to read English. English has 44 sounds and 26 letters. Associating the 44 sounds with letters on a page is complex because each letter may have several sounds depending on what other letters are present. Working with this system tuned Janice's mind to see complicated associations. So, she learned to understand how dream thinking makes meaningful associations. This dream-mind thinking is what she teaches in "DREAM DYNAMICS AND DECODING: Personal, Practical Messages"

TOPIC-
Hidden Threat (The Writer's Coffee Shop Publishing House)

Bio: - Sherri Hayes Sherri spent most of her childhood detesting English class. It was one of her least favorite subjects because she never seemed to fit into the standard mold. She wasn't good at spelling, or following grammar rules, and outlines made her head spin. For that reason, Sherri never imagined becoming an author. At the age of thirty, all of that changed. After getting frustrated with the direction a television show was taking two of its characters, Sherri decided to try her hand at writing an alternate ending, and give the characters their happily ever after. By the time the story finished, it was one of the top ten read stories on the site, and her readers were encouraging her to write more. Six years later, Sherri is the author of six full-length novels, and one short story. Writing has become a creative outlet for Sherri that allows her to explore a wide range of emotions, while having fun taking her characters through all the twists and turns she can create. She is most well known for her Finding Anna Series about a young woman rescued from being a sex slave by a wealthy Dominant. The third book in that series, Truth, released July 25, 2013.

Struggle da Preacher

TOPIC-
Artist Showcase

Struggle da Preacher's always been into music since his early childhood. Without having a musical education he always showed passion for music and singing. His father Sergey would play guitar every other night and sing songs, that was one of the reasons why Struggle fell in love with music. One day he offered his dad to come up with a band where him and his younger brother St.Rap would be singing and dad would be playing guitar. At age of 11 Struggle's parents got divorced so he had to face some real life. He couldn't spend that much time with his brother anymore but he often started to hang out with his cousin Vadim. So they two decided to come up with a band "One Mo". They composed and wrote some silly songs and obviously it didn't work out but it didn't stop Struggle from continuing with music. Few years later when he was 15 him and St.Rap started spending more time together and that's when they got introduced to rap music. They founded a duo named "Lazy Bones" and started giving their first performances, recording songs and making music videos. In 2003 Struggle met Dmitry Kupriyanov, the engineer, whom he keeps working with until now. In 2005 Struggle and St.Rap decided to go as solo artists. And in November 2005 SDP dropped his first solo album "Be Wit' Me Or F*** Dat*. 2005 was a very productive year for SDP. He widen his horizon makin many helpful contacts abroad with foreign artists. This resulted in making collaborations on a global level. The first major step was showing up on The Katrina Relief Album CD which was dropped by 62030 Promotions in Las Vegas, NV. This was indeed one of many of SDP goals to have a release in the USA. In 2008 Struggle released "Da Preacher Of Struggle" album with 11 featured artists from 4 countries (USA, Russia, France, Senegal). Summer 2009 Struggle da Preacher got acquainted with DJ Cerveau of CsR Radio in Providence, RI. So they two came up with a weekly show "Live With Struggle da Preacher". Later that year he made some big appearances on many other radio stations across the United States. In October 2011 got signed to Tornadic Records (Colorado, USA) Also in 2011 a music video for "Coming For You" single was nominated for Best Hip Hop video on WMIF Festival in Washington, DC (USA) In 2012 SDP was going to release his new double CD album "Ups'n'Downs" with appearances of legendary Yukmouth and Kool G Rap, but on March 29, 2012 he found out about his 7-year old son. So he put music aside for awhile and returned to it only in 2013, though he did drop some releases in 2012 including a music video for a song "Killing the History" featuring a Washington rapper CALICO. In January 2013 Struggle met Danika, a professional dancer and singer, who made it to the finals in a Ukrainian TV show "Everybody Dances!". Struggle and Danika recorded a song together entitled "I Wanna Get It Badly" and they started working on another project named "Euro Rap". That album will consist of 5-6 songs produced by D-Euro, a Danish beatmaker. Currently he is working on his new EP "Ups'n'Downs" featuring Yukmouth, Mr. Criminal, A.K.-S.W.I.F.T. and Young Noble as guests.

Dreams of the Cursed - Book 2 in the Dreamer Series (The Writer's Coffee Shop Publishing House) Summary: A violent war has waged in secret unnoticed by humanity since the beginning of time. Evil has pledged the destruction of the world in spite of a power those who covet it could not possibly contain. Now the Warriors have inherited this fight and are honor-bound to rid the Earth of this ancient malevolence. By guarding the most precious, piercing light they possess—their female kin known as the Oracles or Dreamers—the Warriors have a chance against the darkness. Chantal Breelan, plagued by horrific nightmares for most of her life, believes something is wrong with her. Why else would she have such visions of destruction? But when creatures of terror came crawling out of the shadows to hunt her down shortly after her eighteenth birthday, she discovered the truth. Her dreams become reality, throwing her headfirst into a battle wrought by cursed monsters, where death and torture lie at every turn. Mathias is a descendant of a Fallen Angel and a powerful Warrior. He has sworn to a life in service to pay recompense for the sins of their fathers and has guarded Chantal from within the shadows. Long has he fought, shedding sweat and blood, hoping that his struggles wouldn’t be in vain. With Chantal’s life in danger, he has been forced to reveal himself, yet she has managed to surprise him with her fierce tenacity and strength. In his sacrifice, he finds redemption and life’s ultimate reward—a love to surpass all time. Now Chantal has picked up the reins of her birthright and stands by her Warrior kin, by Mathias. She’s on a mission to rescue others like herself. Yet, in this challenge, a battle of wits is exposed. New players are discovered, throwing strategies into question. When the truth comes to light, can Chantal hold her band of brothers together, or will they crumble under the weight of betrayal?
Bio: - Allie Jean Allie Jean was born with an overactive imagination. As a child, her days were spent inventing stories, directing her sisters in made-up plays or telling elaborate ghost stories. Her mind never took breaks or shut down, even when she slept. When her eyes closed at night, she would have vivid dreams complete with extensive, elaborate plot lines, and good overcoming evil villains. She was encouraged by her parents, even at a young age, to write down her tales, and it has remained a somewhat-secret hobby. It became a means to escape from the drama of real life into one of the many worlds she created. Now living in California with her husband of ten years, her love of storytelling had taken a backseat with the arrival of their four children. However, she always found time to write down her thoughts on whatever was handy, including a stray diaper or two while rocking a sleeping child in the middle of the night when her characters begged for attention as well. As a busy wife, mother, and working full-time outside the home, somehow she has been able to write down her relentless characters’ story. Her once-secret hobby and private world is now released for others to enjoy. Nothing would make Allie happier than to spend more time at home with her family and continue writing on a full-time basis.

Of Earth

Of Earth

TOPIC-
Music

"Of Earth" is a multimedia communication utilizing compositions of sight and sound being performed simultaneously. In the lab: ROB DE LUCA makes sounds by using his diaphragm to push air over his larynx. His vocal chords open and close in a delicate or violent fashion, producing somewhat unnerving, but occasionally pleasant sounds. He simultaneously produces deeper noises from an apparatus made of wood and four long wrapped wires, which he attacks with his fingers or a plectrum. This apparatus is fitted with magnets coiled with hair thin copper wire, creating an electromagnetic field. This field picks up the vibrations made by Mr. De Luca's unorthodox attacking and delivers them through a cord to an electrical amplifier. Despite being labeled a heretic by critics, his peculiar ritual has now (d)evolved into an underground movement, which has been labeled "Staring At Sound". PAUL CASANOVA plays a similar wood contraption that has six thin metal wires. He attacks this exclusively with a plectrum and produces a much wider, and far more interesting array of sounds. His contraption also transmits vibrations to an electrical amplifier. This amplifier is connected to paper cones fitted with magnets that somehow transform electric energy into sonic energy. We're not quite sure how he does it either, but it causes Professor Casanova to jump around uncontrollably. This often leaves us wondering if something is going drastically right, or drastically wrong. Never one to be outdone, RIK DE LUCA uses absolutely no electrical energy to create his aural experiment. Armed only with the energy of sheer human force, Dr. De Luca beats on curved tubes of wood or plastic producing tones of different pitches. By beating on these with thin pieces of wood, he can alter and mix the rhythms and dynamics of the tones. He intersperses this frenzy with similar beatings of flat metal spheres to produce very high frequencies that upset all canines and mothers within 167 square feet. Although most of his distinguished colleagues can't pronounce his name correctly, MATTHEW BARAM is very respected among his peers. With all their combined experience in studies of art, acoustics, and physics, they can't quite comprehend his choice of expression. Professor Baram creates sounds from no vibrations whatsoever! He moves his fingers, sometimes amazingly quickly, over the white and black pieces of a plastic and metal computer machine. Each of these pieces coincide with a particular pitch that is created within the apparatus. It's further outfitted with lots of fancy push/pull knobs and levers that can instantly change all aspects of the sound's dimensions. We attempted disassembling this machine to try and understand it, but Prof. Baram must have sensed this, and has since kept it locked and secure. When all these processes coincide, "Of Earth" is truly a marvel of art and science.

Kim Ades

Kim Ades

TOPIC-
New Book

What clients say about Kim: “I found that Kim’s coaching has reawakened the person in me that had been dormant for years. I had almost forgotten what it was like to feel alive.” —Michael Olesen “Kim has had a tremendous impact on my life. Her principles freed me from long held counter-productive thoughts and beliefs that were holding me back from what I really wanted.” —Kevin Faherty “Working with Kim I have experienced a life-changing transformation. My life today is one of excitement, self-discovery and endless adventure.” —Andrew Pollard Kim’s approach to coaching: Kim is recognized for her warmth, her passion and her instinctive talent for seeing the strengths of her clients and helping them discover the path to their own success. She is creative in her approach, honest, perceptive and forms a genuine connection with her clients, building a solid bond of trust and growth. Kim is a bold coach who is unafraid to take the lead in the coaching relationship in order to help clients achieve extraordinary success. Some background info: Kim Ades is one of North America’s foremost experts on performance through thought management. She works exclusively with highly driven, accomplished professionals in their field and uses the unique Frame of Mind Coaching process to ignite significant change and life transformation. Kim lives in Toronto, Canada with her husband and five incredible children. For her, family is paramount, and this priority remains at the core of all her endeavours. After earning an undergraduate degree in Psychology, Kim received her MBA from the University of Ottawa. Between 1995 and 2005, Kim was the Founder and President of Upward Motion and is well known for dramatically penetrating the international real estate industry with a product called the Real Estate Simulator, a web-based assessment tool for the recruitment, selection and training of top performing real estate agents. During that period Kim worked intimately with brokers to help them identify the characteristics, traits and behaviours of individuals who had the potential to be outstanding sales agents. Her expertise in this area makes her one of the industry’s foremost experts on performance and success. As a result of her years of study and data analysis, and literally working with thousands of sales professionals, she has discovered that while top performers have a variety of different personality traits and execute different strategies to acquire their success, there really is only one substantial difference between top performers and others: their frame of mind. Kim designed the Frame of Mind Coaching program to provide her clients with a powerful infrastructure where they could develop the skill of deliberate thought. Kim understands that the single greatest difference between those people who are stratospherically successful and everyone else is their THINKING. She knows that we all have the propensity to shift our thinking and achieve success. She is also a regular contributor and expert guest for a number of publications and online magazines including Choice Magazine, ASTD and SHRM. She is known by her peers as an elite expert around sales and relationships, validated by being recognized as one of North America’s Top 50 most influential women in real estate. What drew Kim to Coaching: Kim has always felt like she was designed specifically to help people in a personal way. When she was exploring various coaching systems, she sensed several flaws that repeatedly showed up in the coaching ideology. Kim noticed that many coaches would focus solely on goal-setting, and then hold clients accountable for their actions that were necessary to meet their goals. “By and large, people know what to do in order to reach their goals, they just aren’t taking action. The question is why?” Kim explains. Kim realized that the one and only thing stopping each and every client from meeting their goals was their thought patterns. Every client wanted to meet their goals, but something – a very big, persistent something – was preventing their success. Kim’s discovery sparked her desire to start a coaching company that focussed solely on thought management. She knew that if she helped people remove the thoughts and beliefs that prevented their success, achieving their goals would be no sweat. Kim found that journaling was the quickest and most efficient way to access a client’s thought patterns and belief system. She began coaching using the tool of journaling, and found that she could help propel substantive and lasting changes in client’s lives and careers. Kim’s Quirks: Kim has five kids and a wonderful husband that she loves dearly. Kim speaks French fluently and she loves dancing in the kitchen. Don’t be surprised when you make Kim laugh really hard and no sound comes out of her mouth! Contact Kim: kim@frameofmindcoaching.com
