Therefore employees may legally be terminated for any content on social media unless protected by law. 2) Exceptions include content between coworkers or previously discussed among coworkers about work terms or conditions. 3) Company harassing employees or permitting such harassment by employees on social media based on a protected class is illegal. 4) Company terminating an employee for a religious affiliation or based on ethnicity found on social media is unlawful. 5) In some states, employees are protected against having to provide social media passwords or usernames.
